BFSG Barrier-free webshop ordering
To implement the legal requirements for digital accessibility from 28 June 2025, the web shop has been expanded to include an accessible mode. This includes an accessible user interface, options for adjusting contrast and font size, full keyboard navigation and alternative texts for images. The implementation is based on the requirements of the Accessibility Improvement Act (BFSG) and the WCAG 2.1 guidelines (conformity level AA).
Accessible webshop mode for compliance with the BFSG
As part of the implementation of the legal requirements for the accessibility of digital services in accordance with the Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz (BFSG) and the underlying EU directive (European Accessibility Act, EAA), the Hypersoft webshop has been expanded to include a comprehensive accessibility mode.
Goal and significance
These measures are an integral part of ensuring digital accessibility within the meaning of the BFSG. They support equal access for people with disabilities and fulfil the minimum legal requirements for accessible websites from June 2025. The aim is also to meet the requirements of WCAG 2.1, conformance level AA, which will be mandatory from 28 June 2025. The following measures were implemented as follows:
New menu item in the footer: "Barrier-free"
An additional menu item in the footer provides direct access to a configuration dialogue for accessible settings. Users can make individual customisations there.
Scalable font sizes
The font size can be adjusted to improve readability. The minimum font size is 16 px and is based on a scalable root font size via CSS class. This ensures consistency throughout the responsive design.
Contrast-optimised displays
High-contrast variants are available for both light and dark themes. These fulfil a minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1 for texts in accordance with WCAG AA. Technically, this is implemented using CSS custom properties with dynamic colour assignment.
Keyboard operability of the interface
All interactive elements in the webshop can be operated entirely via the keyboard. To achieve this, tabindex, role attributes and other ARIA features are implemented correctly. This supports both screen readers and users who navigate without a mouse.
Automatic alternative texts for images
Images without a stored alternative text automatically receive a generic, accessible description. If a specific alternative text is available, this is prioritised for use.
