data protection concept

Hypersoft Data Protection does not offer the same functional details as separately available backup systems (multiple backups, generation backups, etc.). The functional focus is on program integration and compatibility.

introductory remarks

Hypersoft Backup is a simple and easy to use backup program. It is based on a simple data backup concept:

Selected files required to restore a functioning POS system are stored in compressed form (ZIP). The backup can be created automatically.

can be secured:

  • The so-called master data = the programming and configuration of the Hypersoftsuite
  • The transaction data = cash journal
  • The complete installation folder of the Hypersoft Suite

Not to be secured:

  • The operating system and its configuration
  • The database program
  • Installing the Hypersoft Suite

The location of the backup can be selected

  • Local hard disk (not recommended)
  • External media - USB stick, USB hard drive
  • External media - network drive (network hard disk or PC)
  • External media - FTP storage

The backup can be done manually or automatically, at a specific time to be defined.

Basics about Hypersoft Data Protection

The POS data is always on the main device / POS server. This can be the POS terminal itself or an office PC or a server PC. As a rule, all PCs have a network drive interface to the main device (usually configured as drive [S:]Closed Placeholder for the server drive that may have a different letter for you. The server drive must be defined as a drive letter for the Hypersoft Suite. For the connection via web clearing, no drive letter must be defined between the head office and the branch.\) Attention: Windows 10 users only see this network drive in the administrative logon.

Hypersoft Backup can be set up and started on any PC on which Hypersoft Suite has been installed.

An automatic data backup can be set up once per PC.

Basic information on the storage location - Storage location of the data backup - FTP backup

Storage orders for data backups can be external or internal. Internal storage folders, for example, designate the backup PC's own local hard disk. Internal folders are generally not suitable as a permanent destination for backup files, since the backup is lost in the event of a PC or hard disk failure. However, this can be useful for short-term interim hedges.

External storage media are ideal for the permanent backup of data. All storage locations that are not permanently installed in the PC are referred to as external media. A USB stick or USB hard disk is more like an internal medium, since it is mounted directly on the PC. A network hard disk is an external medium and should be removed from the source of the data.

A network hard disk can be accessed locally via the internal network. It can also be used as a true external storage location, outside your own local network (often referred to as a "cloud backup"). Real external storage locations offer the advantage that the data is relatively well protected against fire, theft etc. and also against viruses. The disadvantage is that the backup speed can depend on your own Internet interface and is therefore not always optimal.

To transfer a data backup to an external storage location, the FTP procedure can be used as the transfer method. Transfers via FTP are fast and reliable and can be used in your own local network as well as in external networks (WAN, Internet).

To use an FTP transfer, you need an FTP server (the receiver) and an FTP client (the sender).

Using FTP Backup

The Hypersoft backup includes an FTP client. This allows you to send a data backup automatically to a FTP server or SFTP server.

Please also pay attention to data protection when moving client data and securing it in other locations.

The FTP server must be provided by a service provider. The FTP server can be located in your own local network - e.g. on a NAS. (Network Attached Storage is English for networked storage). The WEB-based FTP server can also be located at an external service provider on the Internet, which provides this as a service, for example, monthly.

Setup...

The setup usually takes place on the main PC/cash server.

  1. Start the Hypersoft data backup in the MCP
  2. Select the Automatic Backup tab.
  3. Choose the backup variant (for example, [03] Master data & transaction data complete
  4. Choose the name of the backup file (for example, client and weekday).
  5. Activate the switch "Use FTP settings".
  6. Enter the access data to the FTP server - see below
  7. Confirm "Install automatic backup on this computer".
  8. Specify the time of the backup
  9. Confirm your entries.

The data backup starts at the specified time.

As soon as the required backup files have been created, a interface to the FTP server is automatically established and the backup files are transferred. As soon as the transfer is completed, the interface to the FTP server is disconnected again.

The FTP settings:

Enter the IP address of the FTP server in the Server field. If a storage location is reserved on the FTP server, enter this location as well.

Example: the FTP server can be reached under the name "meineSicherung.meinftp.de". On the FTP server a storage space was created under the name "Betrieb1". The complete entry in the Server field will then read: my backup.meinftp.de/betrieb1

Each FTP access is secured by a login name and password. You also enter this logon data. You can obtain the login data from your IT contact or from the provider of your FTP server. You can or should check the backup at regular intervals. To do this, log on to the FTP server and check that your backup is complete. You can use your Internet browser to dial in. Enter the FTP server address in the address line as follows: ftp://meinesicherung.meinftp.de/

For access details, please contact your IT service provider or the service provider of your FTP server.

With Test access data you can check your settings by pressing this button after entering the access data. A message then communicates whether everything is OK.

Using a NAS

A NAS is usually located in its own local network and is managed by itself. An ideal location for the NAS is separate from the main device/cash server, so that in the event of fire, theft, etc., the NAS is more secure in another location. If you want to use a NAS, the configuration via FTP is identical. The NAS devices available on the market offer a similar range of functions and usually include their own FTP server. For information on how to set up and manage the NAS, refer to the respective operating instructions. PC knowledge of user administration, IP addresses etc. is an advantage.

Hypersoft and our resellers can offer and configure NAS storage for you. The equipment of a NAS device (number of hard disks, memory size) can be configured. The hard disks of a NAS are storage media specially designed for continuous operation.

Technical information

The Arthist-table is to be integrated in a central office only for client 1. The Arthist -table has only one client 1 relevance and is not required for a location backup in the central office.
