Integrated data backup
Saving data is a copy of information that should be stored in a different location.
The integrated Hypersoft data backup enables you to establish a method for backing up your data directly from within the Hypersoft Suite without having to rely on additional programs. The data backups are also available for quick help from our support team if handled correctly.
Scope of the data backup...
In addition to the Hypersoft master data, the data backup can also back up the transaction data or the complete directories. You can also add other files and directories to the backup and automate the execution of the backup with the System Service. The recovery is clear and easy to use.
For special support questions, you can automatically send backups to Hypersoft Support after making an appointment.

Data backup exception for emergency operation
The Hypersoft system works with multiple tables to store your information. Even if the POS stations can continue to work in emergency operation, this does not mean that complete data backups are automatically available. Rather, the data in this state is probably no longer transmitted to the server so that it can be captured by the data backup there.
Important notes on data backups
The integrated data backup does not back up TSE data. Use the TSE Online Archive programme to save your data.
Making backups is the responsibility of the user, not the manufacturer or supplier of the Hypersoft Suite. Without setting Hypersoft Backup correctly or replacing it with another backup method, you run the risk of data loss.
Even if Hypersoft, or one of our partners, sets up the data backup for you or delivers a complete system, it does not mean that we will always have a data backup for you if necessary.
The Hypersoft data backup is not suitable for restoring your operating system (for example Windows 10), nor does it replace the setup of programmes, but merely restores the state at the specific location at the time the data backup was created.
Due to the current legal situation, you may be obliged to keep data backups (see also Fiscal law in Germany Fiscal Law in Austria RKSV Fiscal law in Switzerland.
*.ZPC files are ignored.
General information on data loss risk
The reasons for the loss of data can be manifold. Some examples:
-
An incorrect formatting format, especially for USB sticks, can lead to data loss. A USB stick should be formatted with FAT32, exFAT or NTFS to transaction larger amounts of data better. Formatting with FAT16 is not recommended due to the limited file size of 2 GB.
-
Hypersoft recommends NTFS formatting of the disk.
- Data may be lost due to fire or water damage.
- Data carriers fail due to obsolescence or technical defects.
- Very often the loss is also caused by misuse or carelessness, such as accidental erasure or formatting.
- Attacks by computer viruses and worms can destroy data.
- If you want to protect yourself against data loss in case of a hard disk failure, the backup must not be stored on the same hard disk.
- For example, if you want to protect against data loss due to fire damage, a backup should be stored elsewhere.
Functions and explanation of data backup
During setup, Hypersoft largely determines itself in which folders data and programs are stored. You have only designated one drive for shared access. Hypersoft uses this method to ensure that the rest of the things and the communication between the programs and components simply work.
Now we would like to explain some basic things to you: For the common understanding we call the Hypersoft Suite here simply an apparatus. This machine consists of programs. These programs work by entering your master data and setting data (also known as Customizing). The running programs then collect information and store it as their transaction data. The scope of the programs, settings and transaction data varies depending on which areas of the device you are using.
The Hypersoft data backup supports variants. Variants determine the scope of the data backup, that is, the objectsit contains. Each variant has a corresponding name. A variant called Master Data Backup therefore saves your master data and settings. The variants contain one or more options. Options in data backup are names under which several objects are grouped together. The necessary options are already set up and named so that you don't need to know about the files involved to secure your customer base.
The backup may take up less disk space than the source information itself. The data is compressed during the backup. Hypersoft uses lossless compression because the compressed data after recovery is exactly the same as the original. To make the backup as compatible as possible, we use the ZIP format, which is also a Windows standard.
It is also important that the data backup is up-to-date. It is of little use if you purchase the Hypersoft Suite and create a single backup that you expect to restore to its current operating state years later. In most cases, so much has changed in the meantime that the data backup is obsolete and many settings have to be carried out again; the data backup may be worthless. To ensure that the data backup is updated regularly, we have integrated an automation system for creating data backups that you can activate and use.
Enhanced security and possibilities
Notes for administrators:
You can also start the data backup with parameters. This allows you to define different destinations using a system service, for example. You can also do this with a button in cashier mode.
Parameters for calling the program:
VARIANT = number of the variant as displayed in the program, or more complete name of the variant.
MANDANT = 0=all clients, otherwise client as specified. Several possible with comma ( 1,2,7 )
OPTIONS = Name options as in the program the hooks. Each "1" stands for the following parts of the name
Client / Month / Calendar week / Weekday
PATH = Storage path of the data backup
Example: MANUAL 1 0 1111 H:\Data backup
Please keep in mind that cyber attacks can also affect data backups. This is especially possible when the backup drives are connected to the system. We therefore recommend that you make data backups in such a way that they are stored separately from the system.
If you have the manager status in the operator authorization, you can manually create a data backup from the cashier mode using command 301 Execute. Command 300 Execute restores an existing data backup.
Further variants can be set up with the parameters mentioned above.
Tip for offline systems outside a cash register network: This method can also be used to transfer program updates. The Hypersoft Setup must be present on the data medium with the file name Setup.exe. After it has been executed at the POS terminal, the setup is started automatically.
Normally the Hypersoft backup starts at a time when no files are locked by Hypersoft. If a file selected for backup is locked and cannot be backed up, this appears in the log.
