Key out
Best practice: Key removal closes process - fast, secure, proven
Operator keys and locks not only offer more security than PINs, which can easily be spied on. They also enable a particularly efficient way of working that many modern tablet cash registers do not even recognise:
-
When the key is removed, the POS system can automatically secure or finalise the process.
This is an enormous advantage, especially in full service, because the key deduction ensures that no order is forgotten, no process remains open and everything is triggered correctly immediately.
Why this function is so valuable:
-
Fast service: The operator books - key out - order secured.
-
Automatic triggering: New balance, order receipt, aisle release or even transaction completion.
-
Perfect for routine cases: especially for drinks rounds or smaller repeat orders.
-
Zero-fraud principle: A physical key effectively prevents operating errors and misuse.
-
You decide for yourself what action the key removal triggers during operation, in line with your concept.
Conclusion
Key removal is a small but extremely effective function: simple, safe, fast and has been a professional standard for years. If you use operator keys, you should definitely activate this automation - it saves time, protects sales and keeps processes stable.

Programming the Key Out Function for Cashier Mode
The key out function can only be used once per layout on the POS keyboard (if there are several uses, only the first one based on the order of the keys is used). This function is integrated in any macro that you want to execute automatically when the operator removes his key. This function is used as the last one in a macro to cause the automatic closing of the operation when the key is removed. See the example Example Macro New Balance....
If no macro on your cash register keyboard is assigned the function Key Out and the key is removed, the cash register functions Bonorder and New Balance are automatically executed when the key is removed. In the case of a transaction without a table number, when the operator key is removed, the transaction is completed and the bookings are treated as sold BAR.
In this context, remember that sales and goods movements (with certain exceptions, such as with availability management) are "only" posted when the transaction is completed. In certain companies, fraudulent intentions may mean that transactions are intentionally left open. For example, to carry out operator accounting without these sales or to manipulate the real-time disposition of stock management (and thus discredit it in order to question confidence in stock control).
If you want to protect yourself effectively against accidentally or intentionally left open processes, activate the Auto Key Outfunction.
