Antivirus programmes with Hypersoft

Antivirus programs and firewalls are necessary to protect a system. Unfortunately, there is an increasing tendency towards interference caused by antivirus programs and firewalls. The Hypersoft system may also be affected.

If you are not familiar with the anti-virus program and firewalls, or if you are a specialist in this field, we recommend that you use a Hypersoft system with the anti-virus program and firewall recommended by us and have it delivered and installed by Hypersoft or a trained specialist dealer. Hypersoft specializes in providing appropriate (and affordable) antivirus software and support. From our point of view, this is the best choice with regard to the highest possible availability of the POS system.

If you want to use a different virus scanner or firewall, or if you want to use a different supplier, you have to make sure that we have a contact person in case "your" antivirus program or firewall is involved in a support case. Please also keep in mind that you can expect our support to make reliable statements as soon as possible - exactly this response time can cause delays and additional work due to the use of unfamiliar virus scanners.

Please be aware that we may have to ask you to completely uninstall "your" virus scanner in order to continue our support work.

Recommendations for Hypersoft

So far, we have had very good experiences with the virus scanners from Microsoft.

Kaspersky Incompatibility with Hypersoft POS

Due to recent events we have to inform you that the current Kaspersky version "with network scan" is not compatible with the Hypersoft POS system. The POS system can be forced into emergency mode by the virus scanner. Other problems in other Hypersoft programmes are also partly known and can be traced back to this. The increased number of problem reports related to this product and Hypersoft force us to treat it as incompatible for Hypersoft POS. Support requests in this context are answered with a request to change the product. (Note: We do not want to speak against the product in general).

Previously known problems with unsuitable virus scanners and firewalls (excerpt):

  1. Overloading the system leads to downtime or waiting times of the Hypersoft system. In extreme cases, emergency operation is even initiated.

  1. Missing virus scanner/firewall updates lead to downtime or waiting times of the Hypersoft system.
  2. Port approvals required for operation are denied. Please note the port list of Hypersoft.
  3. Updates of the virus scanner / firewalls suddenly stop the (previously flawless) Hypersoft system.
  4. Updates or setups of the Hypersoft system are blocked by the virus scanner /firewall.
  5. The virus scanner /firewall blocks the database connections.
  6. The virus scanner / firewall blocks the drive connections in the network.
  7. The local hypers-! directory should be excluded from the real-time search, this must be set as an exception in the AV system, as a corresponding exception.
  8. The Terminal Commander contained in the Hypers-!/ directory contains remote maintenance software, which some AV systems consider a virus / malware.

  9. The network drive to the respective server / main computer should not be monitored by the AV, as this could lead to delays in reading / writing files

  10. Out of the Hypers-! directory, do not quarantine any files, as this may affect the functioning of the cash register.

To ensure that your Hypersoft system works optimally and reliably...

Unfortunately, in most cases, the performance-demanding scans for viruses are scheduled to take place at times when the POS system is supposed to work as such. We strongly recommend that you set up these scans outside of the operating hours of the POS system and also check this when updating the virus scanner. This is the most common cause for support calls and unfortunately these avoidable delays of the POS system are in many cases accepted as a "necessary evil" until clarification is obtained by your call to our support. As a result of such overloads, improper switching on and off and other incorrect reactions by your employees will put additional strain on the Hypersoft system and may put the emergency running characteristics beyond their limits.

If you or your service providers are not 100% familiar with "the respective antivirus programme", we would like to advise against their use and recommend our commissioning. We are particularly often contacted by calls with malfunctions in connection with Kaspersky antivirus programs.
