Fraud Protection Credit Card Fraud

This way you can reduce the risk of credit card fraud in your restaurant.

If there is fraud / credit card fraud and a /chargeback occurs, you cannot "defend" payments that were not made via 3DS (verification and security mechanism in eSolutions) (or at POS without a PIN) as a restaurateur or take action against the chargeback. You lack, so to speak, the bank confirmation that it was the cardholder himself who used the card with you and therefore the bank does not bear the responsibility but you (liability shift).

The payment amount can be withdrawn by the cardholder bank (up to 120 days after the transaction).

Reduce your credit card risk as follows....

When you think of credit card crime, many think first of large corporations, but unfortunately restaurants are also vulnerable to this type of fraud and it is in your interest to learn how to minimise the likelihood of being scammed.

Upgrade your payment terminals and type of digital payment options

Given that you are liable for using old payment devices with magnetic technology, for example, it should go without saying that one of the first and most important steps to minimise the likelihood of becoming a victim of credit card fraud is to update your payment hardware and software.

Accept mobile payments

With each passing day, more customers are using the digital wallets that are integrated into their smartphones. Once customers enter their credit card details into these handy apps, they are securely stored and encrypted. This means that a secure and encrypted transaction takes place the moment the smartphone is held next to a payment terminal equipped for contactless payment. This way, your employee does not even come into contact with the customer's card. Smartphones also already have built-in measures to protect them from hackers. In the end, both the customer and you win.

Pay attention to the position of the terminal

As a rule, you cannot guarantee everyone who has access to your Point Of Sale. Check this for visible changes or "attachments". Prevent tampering by placing your payment terminal within sight of your customers / guests. This way, it is much harder to swipe a card through a "foreign reader", as everyone can see the entire transaction from start to finish.

Check reports regularly

Your new payment terminal offers more than its predecessor. You get a streamlined and seamless way to run daily reports with Hypersoft Pay powered at Adyen and our partners' integrated payment terminals. If you regularly monitor the number of individual transactions compared to the balance, you can spot anomalies that will alert you to possible fraud.

With Hypersoft Pay powered by Adyen, they can even optionally use a portal access for real-time monitoring and evaluations.
